The Texas Forts Trail is pleased to offer two distinct books that highlight the heritage and culture of central West Texas - The Texas Forts Trail and Frontier Texas!
The Texas Forts Trail was published by ACU Press and released in November of 2013 in celebration of the Texas Forts Trail Region's 15th anniversary. Established in 1968, the Texas Forts Trail Region is a 29-county area in Central West Texas with a recommended driving route ("trail") that is anchored by eight frontier forts and the ruins of a Spanish presidio. These forts defined the Texas frontier before and after the American Civil War. The reader is encouraged to make their own memories traveling the recommended driving "trail" and visiting each of the sites featured in this full-color coffee table book.
As the official visitor center for Abilene and the Texas Forts Trail, Frontier Texas! is a western heritage center that allows visitors to relive the Old West through the magic of state-of-the-art technology. Frontier Texas! brings the frontier to life and lets visitors meet people who played out their lives on the Texas frontier. Published by ACU Press, Frontier Texas! was released in September 2014 and reveals how the Frontier Texas! facility came to be, as well as showcasing its many colorful and innovative exhibits.
